Hmm.... Right now I have a fairly stable income and minimal debt. I should start planning my finances for the future.

But my long term finance education was... minimal and poorly informed.

(High school civics teacher: Forget RRSPs - they're a scam! Invest in gold!!)

Surely there's some resources I can get from my bank or other services I currently use?

There sure are!

Based on your age, I assume you'll be starting a family soon... that biological clock won't keep ticking forever! Need to save for your first baby?

Oh..yeah, no. Not having children.

Well then...I see that you've been in a relationship for about 5 years. Isn't romance grand? You must be planning marriage and home ownership!

Not really. One of my partners is already married, the other already owns a home. We're all quite happy keeping our finances separate.

Huh.

But there are a few less typical things about my situation that my research doesn't address, so I'd like to speak to someone about...

Of course! Personal advice! So you have at least $100 000 ready to invest now?

Wow. nope. Nooope.

Are you making at least $200 000 a year?

Also super nope.

Oh well. Here's the wikipedia page for RRSPs and TFSAs. Figure out what you want to do. You can register online. No need to bug anyone at your bank about it.

But -

Get back to me when you have more money. Or a normal life.

Future Planning

New comic! To those of you who are firing up your emails with excellent advice for me: 1) thanks, but I actually got this, I promise. 2) this comic is about how financial services assume a particular trajectory for ones life, and how they only provide custom advice for their top tier customers. It isn't a plea for help. 3) You don't know nearly enough to help anyways 4) please don't send me financial advice. Or medical advice. Or relationship advice? It makes me hesitate doing biographical comics. 5) I love you all and i know you only want the best for me.
