Hey everyone, this is a personal message Robot Hugs with an update on site stuff.
First of all, I want to reiterate how amazing you all are. Every day, tens of thousands of people visit my site and post my work across the web. I never thought there'd be so many of you!
Your support in pageviews and merchandise purchases has allowed me to replace my dying laptop with a much more powerful computer, so I can work on bigger and better projects for you.
So I wanted to keep you abreast on a few topics:
If you have emailed me in the last month or two, you have not received a reply.
I get lots of emails, and every one of them gets read. Often people talk about how things they've seen in my comics have helped them feel less alone, or have helped them advocate for themselves. Those messages feel pretty special!
It has been a busy few months for this website, and I haven't been able to respond to many messages, even from you awesome people who have sent me comic translations. I promise, you're not being ignored, and I will get back to you, but it's going to take a little time. Thanks for your patience!
A few of you have asked that I open a Patreon account. I really appreciate the offers of support, and some day I may take you up on that!
The thing is, I have a full time career that I really enjoy - this website is my part-time job. I get a bit of money from merchandise sales and comic commissions, but this isn't exactly a for-profit endeavour. For now though, I maintain myself pretty well with my day job. I'm doing ok out here, but I know there's lots of other artists who are trying to make a career out of doing what they love...
But we want to help!
The best way to help out is to keep visiting my site, keep liking my comics, keep reblogging posts you like, and to maybe buy a poster once in a while. Oh! And come out an event sometime!
Which reminds me...
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is next weekend (May 9-10). It is a free event in Downtown Toronto, and it has hundreds of incredible graphic artists showing off their work, and it includes panels, workshops, and learning events.
I'm very excited to be an exhibitor at this year's TCAF. I've been spending all my free time preparing buttons, zines, and posters to sell. Mostly, I'd love it if you came by to say hi! I'll be updating my twitter, tumblr, and facebook with my table number when I know it.
So that's about it - thanks to all of you for your ongoing support - have some patience for my correspondence delays, and maybe I'll see you in a week!
