Content heads-up: The below comic references sexual assault, sexual violence, abuse, and rape myths.

How to be the ideal rape victim:

Be a cisgender woman (preferably white). Your attacker should not also be a cisgender woman.

Do not consume alcohol or drugs for 24 hours before your assault.

Do not be taking psychiatric medications, especially antipsychotics.
Delusional?
Manipulative?
Unreliable

If at all possible, make sure you're violently attacked in a dark alley or park by a complete stranger. Don't muddy the water by being raped by a friend, coworker, or partner. (note: be prepared to justify your presence in the alley)

Avoid consenting to sexual activity with your assaulter before your assault. If you are dating your assaulter, end the relationship the moment the assault is over.
How was he supposed to know that this time out of allllll the other times you didn't want to have sex?
Well, I did say 'no'
I'm still confused.

Under no circumstances engage in any communication or interaction with your assaulter that could be considered 'normal' or 'friendly' after your assault.
Hey
hey
what's up?
not much, you?
Proof of lies

Do not harbor any feelings of love, affection, or sympathy towards your assaulter. The only feelings you may feel about him are terror, hate, and rage.
But we'd been best friends for 15 years...
....are you sure it was really rape then?

Never engage in BDSM, kink, or aggressive sex.
So... 'this time' it was different.

Always fight back and collect DNA. Do not fight back so hard that you are further assaulted.
...so you provoked him further?

Avoid having been assaulted before in your past. Under no circumstances have this be anything more than your second experience of rape.
This sure seems to keep happening to you, doesn't it? Any thoughts on why that might be?
Does it matter?

Report your assault the second is over. There is no excuse for delaying this for any reason, including housing security, personal or family safety, employment, community censure, social ostracization, or any other reason.

Do not at normal after your rape.
Is it true that the very next day, you went to work, and then went out to a movie with your friends?
...yes? So?

Have perfect and unwavering recall of all details.
It was a Wednesday - no, actually, I think it was a Thursday.
Unreliable

Do not be too emotional or not emotional enough.
Gosh, she's laying it on a little thick, don't you think?
She's barely acting like anything happened.

Should we go to the police? I'll come with you if you want to report this.

...no. There's no point. I just want to forget about it.

Perfect Victim

New comic! CONTENT ADVISORY: This comic talks about sexual assault and rape myths. When I do comics for other publication, they usually have editorial guidelines that require that comics don't just rant, they also give people tools to chance their perspective or take further action on a topic - to take the next step. This comic is not that. This comic is not advice, and it is not positive. I am very frustrated this week, and so many of us are hurt and angry. This comic is a reflection of that. I don't know what the next step is. There's no perfect next step.
