Hey folks,
I had another comic ready to post today but... sigh.
I've tried not to comment on the US election. It's not my country, and not mine to try to influence. And we have our own problems to fix up here, besides.
But It's been impossible to ignore. And so, like many of my friends and family, we've witnessed it, and we've hoped that you'd be ok.
Recently I described the stacking effect of the US election's rhetoric and mobilization of hate and fear as 'psychologically wounding'. And I know that as hurt and attacked I felt as a person, it could only be a shadow of what it is like to live in the middle of that.
I cannot imagine what you feel like now.
A man stood up, proud to represent racism, misogyny, transphobia, ran on a platform based on stripping safety, protection, and dignity from the lives of racial minorities, gender minorities, and women, and half a country agreed with him.
I've watched you volunteer, and donate, and canvas, and protest, and vote, vote vote, and I see your heartbreak and your fear and your anger now.
I cannot imagine how tired and betrayed you feel.
I can't do much from here, but I can keep making this comic, and I can keep promising that this site, and my social media properties, are a place where that hate will not thrive. I can keep doing work in my country to stop this from happening here as well.
I wish I could reach through the screen to you and tell you that no matter what you've been hearing and told, you have value, you have worth, your identities are valid, you deserve protection and safety, you deserve better.
Look after yourselves. Look after each other. Where you hold privilege, stand up with those who do not, and hold accountable your peers who act with ignorance and hate.
I care about you all, even if I don't know you, and I hope you're ok.
